Many mesothelioma and lung cancer victims were exposed to asbestos in whole or in part through working in the automotive industry. Generally, automotive asbestos exposure came from working with brakes and/or clutches that contained asbestos in them. Arcing or grinding these products created an asbestos cloud of dust that could easily be inhaled by the victim. Asbestos was used in such products up until the early 1980's. Individuals who did their own private automotive work on their vehicles are also at risk.
